Man Faces Brutal Aftermath After Running 24 Hours Straight for Charity

Extreme running challenges are becoming more popular, especially when done for a good cause—but what people don’t always see are the brutal effects on the body afterward.

While we recently saw Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing suffer an unexpected injury to his groin after running five ultramarathons in five days, even something like running a daily 5k can negatively impact your health, experts warn. So diving into a long-distance challenge isn’t something to take lightly.

Joe Pritchard, a charity runner, decided to take on a 24-hour running challenge indoors—on a treadmill set up inside his local pub, the New Inn in Shrawley, Worcestershire. Inspired by the difficulties runners like the Hardest Geezer faced during more intense adventures, Joe chose to stay local and safe for his mission to raise money for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, collecting over £4,000.

However, after clocking a staggering 104 miles (167 km), the aftermath hit him hard. Joe documented the ordeal in a TikTok video, showing obstacles like a malfunctioning treadmill, mental fatigue, and even a nosebleed as he pushed through the full day of running—with some help and encouragement from pubgoers.

While he didn’t come close to the world record of 309 km in 24 hours (set by Aleksandr Sorokin), his body still paid a steep price.

In a follow-up video, Joe revealed just how bad things got after his run. After taking a short 15-minute break before heading to the pub garden to celebrate, his body completely shut down. Friends had to carry him outside, where he felt nauseous and collapsed. He briefly lost consciousness and even his vision—prompting an early end to the post-run festivities.

Back home, he fainted again en route to the bathroom, but a hot bath finally helped ease the intense tightness in his legs. Joe described feeling “weird, light-headed, and dizzy,” and even four days later, his knee was still in pain.

Despite the rough recovery, he seems to be on the mend—and likely won’t be hopping on a pub treadmill for another 24-hour run any time soon. Here’s hoping he finally got to enjoy that much-deserved pint.
